The Num Num Trail - Guided Hiking

This circular trail is 36.5km and ideally situated just 3 hours drive from Johannesburg/Pretoria between Machadodorp and Badplaas, is one of the newest additions to the multi day trails available and one of the few on private land.

The trail traverses the amazing environment of the northern Drakensberg escarpment, ranging between middle and Highveld biomes, featuring an amazing variety of trees

(109 identified and marked) as well as pristine rare mountain grasslands. The trail takes you artfully through this spectacular private nature concervancy which is now almost pristine with no plantations or wattle. The estate has been awarded the Halls / Alan Bachelor Environmental Award 2013 for best Environmental practices for our alien species clearance efforts.

The trail offers a selection of trails from 2 to 5 days between 4 very different camps. The Pongola Express compromises a pair of 1954 SAR railway carriages a dinning car and sleeper with compartments. Aloe Kaya Camp is set in fantastical sandstone formations with a unique canyon shower block and one of the best loo’s with a view on the hiking circuit. Die Stalle is a very comfy converted stable and farm building overlooking the mighty Komati Gorge. Candlewood Camp has simply the best view in the world with the second highest waterfall in Mpumalanga as the backdrop.

Each camp is fully equipped with hot showers and very comfortable bunk beds, internal and external braai’s. We supply everything from cups to gas stoves all you need to bring is your bedding, drink and food. Our shuttle service will transport your gear and grub in 85lt containers supplied at each camp and we will carry cooler boxes for the same cost as a crate.
