For a truly unique South African Adventure try your hand at Ostrich Riding!

In the farmlands of the Little Karoo, ostrich handlers discovered the fun of racing these fast birds across the wide open spaces. Today you can mount an ostrich on many of the ostrich farms in and around the town of Oudtshoorn.

Riding a two legged creature is completely different to riding a horse, camel or other typical steed, but although this may sound like a new idea by people in the Karoo that have spent too much time dreaming under the stars, ostrich riding actually stems back to Ancient Egypt during the third century so you are embarking on an age old tradition!

Finding the balance under the wings require some effort - and don’t forget, these are the fastest birds on land and have been known to run up to 70 km/h!

Your handlers will show you how to mount and move with our ostrich – so as long as you have a zest for adventure (and weigh 75 kgs or less) this is a fun way to spend your afternoon!
