Day 1 | MPUMALANGA [chalet –LD]
(B=breakfast, L=lunch, D=dinner)
Our first day starts at 0630 am with a tour briefing and once the formalities are over we leave Johannesburg for Mpumalanga. Our first stop is Pilgrims Rest, South Africa’s first gold mining town and from there we visit the view point over God’s Window. Included in today’s activities is a leisurely walk to Mac Mac falls. We end the day at Graskop Mogodi Lodge where our chalets are situated on the edge of the escarpment.

Walk grade: Leisurely – Mac Mac Walk – short easy walk to stretch your legs. 2-3km, less than one hour. On a foot path with very limited altitude change.

Day 2 | PRIVATE GAME RESERVE [non participation camping BLD]
The first long walk starts in the morning at the Blyde River Canyon. We admire the spectacular views of the of the Three Sisters and the Blyde river below as we descend into the canyon.
Following a hearty lunch, we our next stop is our private game reserve near the Kruger National park, where we will embark on an afternoon game drive that evolves into a spot lit night drive to see the nocturnal animals. From the campfire of our rustic tented camp, we will be able to hear and be a part of the pleasures of the Big 5 African wilderness.
Includes: Entrance fees to Blyde River Canyon, private game reserve
Overnight: Karongwe Conservancy - non participation camping shared ablution facilities. Sunway will provide 2.1x2.1m twin dome tents, and mattresses and sleeping bags. The tents will be erected while you enjoy your game drive, and dismantled while you take the game walk in the morning. Meals will be prepared by the tour leaders. WiFi not available
Walk grade: Moderate – Blyde River Canyon – 3.5hr walk on good paths with some rocky sections.

Day 3 – 4 KRUGER NATIONAL PARK [chalets BLD]
An experienced field guide will conduct a memorable game walk at first light. This is an opportunity to experience the wilderness on foot using tracking to find the secretive animals and acquire knowledge of how the animals use the plants and survive in the bush. Feeling well exercised we relax in the spacious vehicle on route to the Kruger National Park.
The magnificent elephant, monarch Lion and shy leopard all belong to the well-known Big five. The next two days will be spent on passionate morning and afternoon game drives whilst at mid-day we escape the heat like the animals do back at camp. During this time, our professional guides will inform you about all the ecology, flora and fauna the wilderness has to offer. The Kruger National Park offers additional Night Drives for the enthusiasts. (Own expense)

Day 5 – 6 | KINGDOM OF SWAZILAND [chalets BLD]
Entering the flourishing fruit farming areas of the Kingdom of Swaziland we head towards our Mountain retreat. Malalotja Nature Reserve will be our home for the next 2 nights. We will have a full day to walk around this secluded mountainous reserve. Mbabane is the Capital City, we will visit the medicine and craft markets that the Swazi peoples cultural heritage is well known for.

Walk grade: Challenging – 4 - 6hr walk through undulating hills of Malalotja Game Reserve to a beautiful waterfall. Uneven paths and this walk has sections of steep gradients.
Distance/time: 200kms, ± 3 hours, excluding 2-3 hour morning drive out of Kruger, shopping stop in Malelane, Jeppes Reef border formalities & stops for sightseeing etc
Day 7 – 8 | ISIMANGALISO WETLAND PARK [lodge Bx2 Lx2 Dx1]
Heading back into South Africa we continue to Zululand and the rolling hills where the mighty King Shaka once ruled. Exploring the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve, where Dr. Ian Player prioritised rhino conservation in the morning. This afternoon we stretch our legs for 2 – 3 hours on the Ingwe (Leopard) trail in False Bay Park and learn about the wetlands rich birdlife and marine estuary. The UNESCO World Heritage Site, Isimangaliso incorporates the diverse wonders of estuarine lakes and delicate coastal sand forests which host an abundance of rare wildlife along the subtropical coastline.

Day 9 - 10 | ZULULAND [lodge BL-]
Departing this tranquil coastline and meandering through the rolling hills and scenic valleys of Northern KwaZulu Natal we head to the town of Dundee. Vicious battles between the local Zulus, Colonial British and the Anglo Boer troops can still be felt. It’s said the fertile red soil bears testimony to lives lost in these battles. To find out more we visit the Tulana museum. In the afternoon we will have free time to settle in to our comfortable lodge. The next morning we discover the Islandlwana battlefield followed by an enticing 4-5hour trek tracing the foot prints led by the two British fugitives winding our way through the hills of Zululand and down to the Buffalo River. Rourkes Drift will be our final point of interest on our way to the lodge.

Day 11 – 12 | DRAKENSBERG [chalets BLD]
uKhahlamba “Barrier of Spears” is the local name for the Drakensberg Mountains. Our chalets the base of the “berg” (alt. 1,600m) will be our cosy stop for the night. A full day of walking the mountain trails, with abundant landscape and natural photographic opportunities. To relax our fatigued muscles, an invigorating swim can be taken in one of the many Royal Natal National Parks’ mountain streams. Whilst enjoying the splendour of the mountain views we are rewarded with fresh, crisp mountain air. Life is good.

Walk grade: Moderate – 5.5hr walk up the Tugela gorge on good paths with some rocky sections, boulder hopping.

Day 13 | DRAKENSBERG [chalets BL-]
After an early breakfast, we head to Witsieshoek. At the foot of the magnificent Sentinel Peak our trek begins! We start with a short chain ladder section, before ascending to the top of the Drakensberg Amphitheatre which is the home of the beautiful Tugela Falls at an altitude of 3,000m. This offers unparalleled views over KwaZulu-Natal. Perched high in the mountains is our lodge at an altitude of 2,300m, this overlooks the delightful Mont-Aux-Sources mountain range.

Overnight: Witsieshoek, Bungalows – twin rooms with en-suite facilities. At 2220m above sea level, Witsieshoek is the highest lodge in the Northern Drakensberg. WiFi available
Walk grade: Challenging - 3 – 4 hrs walk on uneven paths to the top of the Amphitheatre with a short section of chain ladders. Walk is optional, clients can opt for day at lodge.

Day 14 | JOHANNESBURG - TOUR ENDS [- BL-]
Before we begin our short homeward journey to Johannesburg. We have a leisurely start to the day with the hope of seeing the endangered bearded vulture which may be gracefully soaring overhead. This magnificent creature, plays an important role in nature. Tour ends at +/-17:00.
