Baviaans Mountain bike tours

Travel to Uniondale, find yourself a warm soft bed and get your cycling kit together.  The tour starts on Monday morning at Verberg Lodge. Verberg is on a farm 44km from Uniondale on the Vaalwater road. There is excellent accommodation available at Verberg Lodge. Contact Denise if you would like to overnight on the farm on Sunday evening. You will leave your vehicle on the farm for the duration of the tour.

Monday:
Day one covers a distance of 37km. You will go up and down the Nuwekloof pass to enter the red cliffs of the Baviaanskloof. We will stop for lunch and you will have ample time to take pictures. Cedar Lodge guesthouse is 7km from the main route and lies between the mountains and a stream. Here we will spend the first night.

Tuesday:
After breakfast we start cycling. Today’s route is spectacular. Only 27km to go.  Stop at Vero’s tea garden to buy T-shirts and have your second cup for the day.  Ample time to swim and use your camera. Accommodation at the Baviaans Guest cottages.

Wednesday:
Distance 23km.  (Plus 4km to lunch spot) - Lunch next to a dam on lovely green grass. You will want to spend more time here. Many water crossings. If the rainfall is good they can be deep. Your feet are going to get wet.

Thursday:

Baviaanskloof Cycling

We head for Rooihoek, 39km over a hectic pass.  Rooi ribbok crossing.  There is no formal accommodation in the Nature conservation area so we will camp next to the river.  The only bath you will have tonight is in the river so bring eco-friendly shampoo!

Friday:
32.6km to go today.  The route includes “the mother of all passes”.  When reaching the plateau at Bergplaas look out for Rooihartbees and Gnu. An awesome downhill ride towards Patensie follows. Accommodation in lovely cottages with a spectacular view.

Saturday:
Breakfast and transfer back to Uniondale. Depending on the speed of the group you will arrive back at Verberg at lunch time.

The crew will prepare all meals and see to your every need. On the days camping we pitch the tents and supply everything that you need to have a comfortable and enjoyable experience. When you reach the camp, the fire will be burning and a kettle of strong home brew will be waiting. You can kick off your shoes and relax. Shower facilities will be available everywhere but at Rooihoek. A bucket shower will be provided for those who do not feel like a bath in the river.
