Enjoy an eco-tour with Hermanus Whale Cruises.

Experience an unforgettable interaction with whales, dolphins, seals and African penguins while you breathe the champagne air. Meet the local people in the Overberg by exploring the culture of the distinctive historical Fishing, Mission and Township communities. The shareholders and workers of Hermanus Whale Cruises are all fisherfolk from the previously disadvantaged communities of Hawston, Zwelihle and Mount Pleasant. They are a knowledgeable, veteran BEE Company.

Their new 70-seater boat, Whale Cruiser, has a top viewing deck seating 26 passengers and a front deck seating 10 passengers. Our passenger-endorsed skippers are experts in whale location and have more than 15 years experience of the local seas. The marine guides are specialists on whale behaviour and the cultural guides are specialist local community guides. You can even taste the unique local foods as only the locals can prepare in the diverse communities.

As you explore the Overberg you not only find yourself in the heart of the Whale Route but discover the splendour of the Cape Floral Kingdom, where you can see some of the fynbos species that occur nowhere else in the world.

Historical sites and fishing villages like Hawston, Kleinmond, Gansbaai, Arniston and Struisbaai are visited, as well as the Moravian Mission Stations of Elim, Genadendal and Zuurbraak.

Township tours to Zwelihle and Stanford are also on offer. Be sure to be thrilled by the warm, colourful people of the Overberg.

Boat-based whale watching from Mid-May to Mid-Jan. Resident whales, dolphins, seals and African penguins from January to May. Cultural tours all year round.

Departures from Hermanus New Harbour: 7 am, 9 am, 12 pm, 2 pm and 4 pm.
