?We dream of breaking free to live in open spaces, where physical strength counts, and time is unimportant.?

Wilderness guides have been leading people of all ages from many nations, walks of life and diverse backgrounds into KZN Wildlife parks for more than 40 years, ever since the first trail led by Dr Ian Player and Maqubu Ntombela walked into the Imfolozi Wilderness in April 1959.

The Wilderness ethic has since been carried into pristine wild areas in Imfolozi, St Lucia and the Drakensberg by dedicated trail officers and field rangers, with humility and respect birthed from an intimate personal relationship with wilderness.

Many lives have been changed though the brief encounter with the untamed Zululand bush, rich in a cultural heritage left by Khoi-San and the then tribal Nguni people.

Others have been touched by the pristine wetlands, dune forest, lake and seashores of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park or the mountain splendour of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park, testimonies to nature standing triumphant in surviving human’s many attempts to tame and dominate the wildness.

In wilderness people are confronted with themselves, reflected in the light of nature?s innocence, and are nudged to reconsider personal values, purpose and destiny.

The depth of life’s metaphor found there has been planted in the hearts of many visitors, and the legacy of wilderness continues for all to enjoy in the years ahead.
