Cape Town, with its suburbs spread around the base of Table Mountain and its beautiful Atlantic coastline, is an ideal site for paragliding. Pilots come from far and wide to launch off Lion's Head and Signal Hill, spiralling upwards for a bird's eye view of the mountain, beaches and homes.
Throughout the year, operators with experienced pilots offer tandem paragliding flights, making this freeflight activity accessible to everyone. No experience is necessary and passengers that are young or old, able-bodied or not, can experience the freedom of flight.
Your pilot will brief you before the flight, showing the procedure for take-off and landing. Landings take place on large grassy fields that are free from obstacles and dangers. Flight duration ranges from five to 30 minutes, depending on the weather and wind.
Cape Town's weather is changeable and both flight opportunities and duration are subject to conditions. On a good day from Lion's Head, you may soar above the summit, cross over to Table Mountain, soar up the cliffs and along the buttressed Twelve Apostles mountains. Sunset flights from Signal Hill reward you with views of Cape Town city, the Waterfront and Seapoint areas.
Wear closed shoes and long pants and take along a wind-proof jacket. Make contact with our recommended operators and remember to keep a number of gaps in your diary so that you can head out for a tandem paragliding flight as soon as conditions are in your favour.
